What is the Child Safety Seat Program?
In partnership with the Virginia Department of Health (VDH), this program offers free child safety seats and booster seats for income-eligible children and families. Parents, foster parents, and legal guardians of children who reside in Virginia may apply. Safety restraint devices provided include a convertible safety seat (with a starting weight of 5 pounds) and a belt-positioning booster seat.
Who is Eligible for the Safety Seat Program?
- Resident of Chesterfield County, Virginia (citizenship not required)
- Custodial parent, legal guardian, or foster parent
- Child is 7 years old or younger; pregnant mother must be in last trimester of pregnancy
- Child must fit within the program’s devices (set by manufacturer’s guidelines)
- Income eligible for WIC, Medicaid, SNAP, TANF, FAMIS, or LISSDEP income level guidelines
- Parent or legal guardian is available to complete required training to learn how to correctly use and install a safety seat and booster seat
